Day in and day out, often times behind the scenes, the members of “People Need Friends” are busy about the business of enhancing the quality of life for so many. Through the gift of time and individualized attention our volunteers remind and reinforce the dignity and worth of each person.
On Thursday, May 5, 2016 the Gruenert Center clients had the opportunity to take part in a workshop of body, breath and decision making which was designed and presented by occupational therapy students from Kean University.
On Thursday, May 5, 2016 the Gruenert Center clients had the opportunity to take part in a workshop of body, breath and decision making which was designed and presented by occupational therapy students from Kean University. This event was the brainchild of Emily Thomas, a “People Need Friends” volunteer and OT student.
The DPD is blessed by the charity of many individuals and organizations. Without this it would be impossible to provide the quality of life that it does. Our residents are very grateful for their many benefactors and decided that they, too, wanted to give back to the greater good. With that a club was formed called “Fight for the Right” with a goal to serve those in need.
Jefferson Township High School and the Department for Persons with Disabilities held their 3rd Annual “Dunk for Disabilities” Fundraiser. The students from Jefferson Township High School have given back to DPD in many capacities however; this event was also a great opportunity for raising awareness for our cause and honoring individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities!
The Annual Pig Roast and BBQ is coming on Saturday, September 12 at the All Purpose Building and Pool, Oak Ridge. More information will follow in the days ahead. This is a DPD family event for all of our residents, staff, volunteers and friends.
