Holy week begins with Palm Sunday which marked the start of what is often called “ Passion Week,” the final seven days of Jesus’ earthly ministry. Palm Sunday was the “beginning of the end” of Jesus’ work on earth. It commemorates the triumphal entrance of Christ into Jerusalem when palm branches were placed in His path, before His arrest on Holy Thursday and His Crucifixion on Good Friday. During this final week of Lent Christians celebrate the mystery of their salvation through Christ's Death and His Resurrection on Easter Sunday. Red is the color used this day to symbolize the shedding of Christ’s blood. It is also used on days commemorating other martyrs who offered their lives for the faith.

Purim will last until Thursday evening, March 24. The story of the joyous holiday of Purim might appear somber at first glance: It tells of the near-destruction of the Jewish people as decreed by Hamanan adviser to the Persian King. However, the newly crowned queen, Esther is secretly a Jew. Due to her courage and her eventual role in saving the Jews, the story of Purim is known as “Megillat Esther,” or the Scroll of Ester.
The story of Purim is found in the Biblical book of Ester in the Old Testament. This is publically read in synagogues twice on Purim: when the holiday begins at nightfall, and the following morning. When the name of Haman is read, people stomp their feet, hiss, boo, or shake noisemakers to obliterate his name. It is a day of celebrating and happiness.
