Gracious God, we place our worries in Your hands and our sick under Your care. Please pour your love upon those who have asked to be remembered in our prayers:

• Patrick Powis – Father of Art Powis , for comfort, strength and courage as he faces his illness
• Jeanette Geary – CARE volunteer, as she recovers from surgery.
• Karen Tofilski – For a speedy recovery from surgery and return home.
• Family of Lori Desautels – Gruenert Center staff , as they grieve the loss of their mother Diane Totino
• Sister Mary Edward Spohrer for the loss of her Uncle George Spohrer
• John Nick, Jr. - for healing and strength in his suffering.
• Family of Mark Meeks – nephew of Sister Joan. May God be with them in a special way during this time of loss.
• Anthony - a young man of 23 whose lungs are not in good condition, may God draw him near as his final hours approach and for comfort for his loving family.
• Rosa Bascietto – Mother of Joanne Rossi. That the love and respect of her family helps to sustain her and bring her joy.
• Donald – Son of volunteer Barbara Mahler, may God watch over him during his illness
• Bob Craig – Long time art teacher/volunteer as he struggles with recurrent and painful back issues
• Tavia - Great grandmother of Ashley Hidalgo. May God ease any pain and comfort her in knowing that she has lived a good and productive life.

✙ July 29 - Saint Martha - Patron Saint of Cooks

Jesus Christ and his Disciples stopped at the house of Martha in Bethany, about two miles from Jerusalem. Her sister Mary lived there, along with their brother Lazarus whom Jesus had raised from the dead. Mary sat at Jesus' feet and listened to his words. Martha, meanwhile, was distracted with preparing and serving the meal for the group.
"Martha, Martha," the Lord answered, "you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her." (Luke 10:41-42 )

For centuries people in the church have puzzled over the Martha and Mary story, knowing that someone has to do the work. The point of this passage, however, is making Jesus and his word our first priority. Jesus did not imply that we shouldn’t be responsible for our debts, health, and the rest of the things around us. His concern was about how easily we can be distracted from God thoughts because of worldly thoughts that cloud our mind

✙ July 31 Saint Ignatius of Loyola , 1491-1556

St. Ignatius was born in the family castle in Guipúzcoa, Spain, the youngest of 13 children. When he was old enough, he became a page, and then a soldier of Spain to fight against the French. A cannon ball and a series of bad operations ended his military career in 1521. While St. Ignatius recovered, he read the lives of the saints, and decided to dedicate himself to becoming a soldier of the Catholic Faith. Soon after he experienced visions, but a year later suffered a trial of fears and scruples, driving him almost to despair. After traveling and studying in different schools, he finished in Paris, where he received his degree at the age of 43. Many first hated St. Ignatius because of his humble Lifestyle. Despite this, he attracted several followers at the university, including St. Francis Xavier, and soon started his order called The Society of Jesus, or Jesuits.

As of January 1, 2015, Jesuits numbered 16,740 men as priests, seminarians, brothers and novices. They are probably most known for their colleges and universities such as Boston College, Georgetown, University of Scranton, and Fordham to name a few.
