✝ First week in Ordinary Time✝ Visit us at: http://ministry.dpd.org/ On the liturgical (Church) calendar we return to Ordinary time. Ordinary Time is called "ordinary" because the weeks are numbered. The Latin word ordinalis, which refers to numbers in a series, stems from the Latin word ordo, from which we get the English word order. Thus, Ordinary Time is in fact the ordered life of the Church—the period in which we live our lives neither in feasting (as in the Christmas and Easter seasons) or in more severe penance (as in Advent and Lent), but in watchfulness and expectation of the Second Coming of Christ. Green is the color used to signify this time between liturgical seasons.

January 10 – The Baptism of the Lord On this day the Church celebrates the Solemnity of the Baptism of Our Lord. The Church recalls Our Lord's second manifestation or epiphany which occurred on the occasion of His baptism in the Jordan. It is this day that also marks
the endof theChristmasseason. So if you have been wondering ‘why and how much longer’ we will be singing Christmas carols in churches with manger scenes still on display, the answer is as of today, it is finished. We now forge ahead in to the ordinary, the regular marked passing of time.

January 13-St. Hilary of Poitiers Doctor of the Church Born: 315 Died:368
Hilary was born into a rich and well to do family who, like many people of the time, were pagans and believed in many gods. Hilary's studies made him realize that there could only be one God who is eternal, all-powerful and good. He took it upon himself to read the Bible. By the time he finished, he was completely converted to Christianity and was baptized. Eventually he even became a bishop. During his life he wrote many books teaching the people about the faith. His books are used by the Church even today. That is why he is called a Doctor of the Church.
